4 Best Destinations For Your Post-Christmas Vacation

Travelling over Christmas is a great way to get away from the holiday stress – no worries about decorating, cooking, family gatherings and presents. But for some families, the idea of being away from home for the holidays just makes them feel homesick. For these people, the post-Christmas vacation is the ideal time for a holiday getaway. It’s a time to relax after the busyness of the holiday season, it’s often cheaper after the Christmas rush, and it’s something to look forward to after the Christmas high. Here are four great post-Christmas vacation destinations your whole family will enjoy!

1. Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique

These private islands off the northern coast of Mozambique offer soft sand, sunny skies and delicious seafood to help you wind down after the holiday season. Island-hop around the archipelago to see the uniqueness of each island, or spend the days on your favourite beach enjoying the diving, snorkelling, fishing, sailing and water-skiing. The delicious seafood will make you glad to be done with the holiday cooking! And January weather is beautiful, with long, hot days cooled down by spurts of brief rain.

2. Zanzibar, Tanzania

With an average of only five rainy days in the month of January, Zanzibar is a great place to unwind with the family after Christmas. Explore the shopping, history and architecture of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taste the delicious seafood and fruits of Zanzibar, and unwind with your family on one of the beautiful white sand beaches, wading into the warm turquoise waters of this Tanzanian archipelago.

3. Southern Serengeti, Tanzania

January is calving season in the Wildabeest migration, and the animals mass in the Southern Serengeti because of the excellent grazing it provides during the month. 8000 calves are born each day, and the calves feed on the grass in the southern region in their first few critical weeks. With all the new Wildabeest calves come the natural predators – lions, hyenas, jackals, leopards and more, setting the stage for exciting game drives or viewing from your lodge.

4. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda

Trekking through the beautiful Bwindi Park in January is a little easier and more comfortable because of the short dry spell that usually occurs during the first month of the year. Less rain and mud makes for easier hikes and a more pleasant experience. Because the number of daily permits is limited, book this trip soon. Dry season is popular, but seeing the amazing mountain gorillas in the gorgeous rainforest is worth it.
