Climbing Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa at 17,058 ft. The mountain has several summit points – Batian, Lenana and Nelion being the main peaks. The summit to Batian and Nelion is for the technical climbers, whereas Peak Lenana caters to the trekkers.

There are several routes to climb Mount Kenya

The Naromoru Route – Since this is the fastest route to reach Lenana peak, this is the most popular route amongst climbers hence over crowded. However, this route does not offer the scenic views in comparison to the other routes and is suitable chosen by for climbers who do not have enough days for the trek.

The Chogoria Route – This is the most scenic route. It passes the enchanting Hall Tarns and looks down sheer cliffs into the spectacular Gorges Valley and onto beautiful Lake Michaelson.

The Sirimon Route – This route is on the drier side of the mountain and the least used in comparison to the other two routes. However, Sirimon route features the most gradual ascent profile and offers the best acclimatization options. On this route you will see abundant wildlife and breathtaking alpine scenery.

Besides the three main routes, there are four other routes to summit Lenana but these routes are less popular amongst climbers.
