Spotlight on Oman

If you are a frequent traveler around the globe, then a visit to Oman is a must, at least once.  Oman was once a huge seafaring empire, so in today’s Sultanate of Oman, you will find a mixture of ethnicities, races, cultures and traditions.

What you don’t see in Dubai, you will see in Oman. While the UAE draws international visitors to its flashy five-star hotels and massive shopping malls, it’s neighbour to the east, Oman, has taken a slightly more subtle approach to developing its tourism industry.

Oman is hoping that the preservation of its heritage sites and spectacular landscapes, rather than rapid modernization of bot, will attract visitors seeking a more laid back Arabian experience.

Muscat, Oman’s capital city, is a fascinating place where a visit to the Mutrah Souq will test your haggling skills, see the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, take in the Opera or if your more adventure spirit takes over, there are loads of outdoor activities to keep you busy.

Best time to visit is between October and March.  Mid-June to mid-September is the Salalah Tourism Festival that celebrates the monsoon season when the southernmost tip of Oman transforms from a dry desert to a lush green carpet.
