The Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Destinations in East Africa

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but maybe this year, you’ll do more than just the usual flowers and chocolates. Why not surprise your beloved with a trip to one of the most romantic destinations in East Africa? Plan a getaway where the two of you can relax, unwind and reconnect. Let some of the most beautiful places in the world be the backdrop for your Valentine’s celebration. Now is the time to start planning a special getaway for you and the one you love, and here are four of the most romantic places you can go:

1. Diani Beach

With 17km of white, silky sand and beautiful turquoise water, Diani Beach is a great place to put your feet up in the shade while sipping a brightly coloured cold beverage from a glass with a little umbrella in it. If you want adventure, try sky diving or jet skiing. Snorkel in the shallow waters and see all the amazing life that lives in the beautiful coral reef. Enjoy a couples massage at one of the luxury resorts on the beach, and let Diani treat you to your most romantic Valentine’s Day yet.

2. Lake Kivu

One of the great African Lakes bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, the beautiful blue freshwater of Lake Kivu is a magical place to swim, kayak or hop around for a tour of the local islands. Take a leisurely, scenic drive on the winding roads between towns, enjoying the hills and mountains beside the lake, taking in the gorgeous views around every turn. Or if you would rather not drive, just enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain view from one of the beaches in the area, and enjoy some quiet time with the one you love.

3. Lake Victoria Islands

Named after Queen Victoria by explorer John Hanning Speke, Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes, and the world’s largest tropical lake. It has several beautiful islands to explore with your beloved, including Rusinga Island, on the northeastern side of the lake, an amazing place for swimming, hiking and bird watching, and Mfangano Island on the eastern side of the lake, home of two ancient rock art sites, amazing birds and several giant monitor lizards. Or take your love to Ssese Islands, an archipelago of 84 mostly uninhabited islands with white sand beaches and beautiful thick rainforests. Wherever you are, the views will be breathtaking and the romance factor turned up to 10!

4.Serengeti National Park

The size of Serengeti National Parks makes it easy to accommodate needs of all kinds of travellers, including lovers. Take in the safari on a daytime or evening drive, or a walking safari (with an armed guard). Enjoy a cocktail on your terrace while watching the sunset over the savannah, and an evening candlelit meal under the stars. Take advantage of the spa services of one of the luxury lodges in the park. There are several lodges that are secluded from other camps, giving you the quiet and tranquility to enjoy some alone time with your partner, while still being part of the action and adventure of the Serengeti.
