Travel Hotspots for 2019

With the new year comes new opportunities for travel and adventure that you hadn’t thought of before. Every year, new places become the it places to travel, with people discovering new pockets of the globe they hadn’t thought of before. Here are a few places that are on everyone’s bucket list this year – you should put them on yours, too.

1. Ponta Delgada, Portugal

When people think of Portugal, the cities of Porto and Lisbon are usually the first to come to mind. But for 2019, the capital of the Azores, Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island is the new hot spot in the country. In addition to its museums, forts and centuries-old buildings, travellers who seek more of an outdoor adventure vacation will love the hiking and mountain biking through beautiful countryside including the thermal pools in the Furnas Valley, the volcanic crater lake Lago do Fogo and one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal, Sete Cidades Lake.

2. Kauai, Hawaii

Maui isn’t the only hotspot in Hawaii. Its older sibling Kauai is having a moment in 2019, and you won’t want to miss it. It is the more rugged of the two islands, which also makes it the more lush, quiet and rural. This isn’t the place to go for high-rise resorts and over-commercialization. Tropical rainforest covers much of the island, and there are breathtaking jagged cliffs and the white-sand beaches that Hawaii is known for. Make sure to take an adventure hike or boat ride to the famous Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon, known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.”

3. Volcanos National Park, Rwanda

Though we all tend to associate Rwanda with gorillas (and rightly so – they are an amazing and beautiful attraction!), this year it’s all about Volcanos. Kruger and Masai Mara may have more name recognition, but Volcanos National Park is just as stunning and a sight for everyone to see in 2019. This breathtaking conservation area offers stunning views of the misty mounts of Karisimbi and Sabyinyo. Explore the lush forests and thick groves of African redwoods around the volcanos, and because it’s Rwanda, you are still likely to run into one the beautiful mountain gorillas.

4. Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech is not a place to visit if you’re looking for peace and tranquility. But if you’re ready to embrace a little chaos, the Red City can be a tantalizing adventure. Let your eyes enjoy the beauty of the colourful alleyways, shop in the tiny souks and bazaars. See the most famous sights including the Koutoubia Mosque and the Bahia Palace. This old city is going to be the new adventure on everyone’s 2019 bucket list.

5. Bali, Indonesia

Bali continues to remain a top travel destination for people from around the world, and for good reason – the breathtaking Indonesian island gives people equal opportunities for adventure and relaxation. With ancient temples, stunning beaches, cultural attractions and Balinese charm – not to mention the yummy food – Bali continues to be a destination for travellers near and abroad. Make 2019 the year you experience the magic of Bali for yourself.
