Two East African establishments were recognized during the African Responsible Tourism Awards ceremony held recently in Cape Town, South Africa.
Chumbe Island Coral Park in Zanzibar won the prize for 'Best for Beach Tourism'
It was awarded the gold winner for 'its careful review of progress to 2006 and the development of the new management plan 2006-2016, which the judges saw as an example of good practice and one which others should emulate'.
The 'Best Destination for Responsible Tourism' went to Gansbaai in South Africa.
However, the silver winners were Bigodo Wetlands Sanctuary in western Uganda.
The awards, which were dominated by the South Africans, were handed out on during the World Travel Market Africa in Cape Town.
