Dubai to impose new 'Tourism Dirham' on hotel guests

Are you planning a trip to Dubai in the near future?  If you are, you might want to know about this new “Tourism Dirham” that you will have to pay, separately, as a guest staying in any type of hotel establishment including, hotel apartments, guest houses and holiday homes.

This fee will be levied per occupied room night, and will be represented as a separate line item in the bill payable by the guest upon check-out. The Municipality charge and the service charge will not be levied on this fee.

The funds raised will support the international promotion and marketing of Dubai.

Such tourism fees are charged in several leading tourist destinations around the word.  Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said “The introduction of Tourism Dirham will support Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, helping to ensure our continued competitiveness on the global stage which will be reflected positively on the growth of two of our economic pillars – trade and tourism.

The Tourism Dirham will be introduced as of March 31st 2014 and the details of the fee structure are shown below:
