Mt. Kilimanjaro site of new Guinness Record

To celebrate the milestone of Tanzania becoming the 100th country where Pizza Hut can now be found, Pizza Hut pulled of an exceptional PR stunt by delivering a pizza to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. The record set was the highest altitude pizza delivery on land.  The team ate the classic pepperoni pizza at the height of 19,347 ft., as stated by the Guinness World Records.

According to reports, the pizza was prepared at the newly opened Dar es Salaam chain from where it was flown to the Kilimanjaro Airport and thereafter taken to Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park. A team of five professional climbers carried the specially prepared heat-insulated pizza box on a backpack and carried it up to the summit in the next four days.

This record delivery also raised money for much needed improvements to the Msasani Primary School in Dar es Salaam, where the new Pizza Hut is opening.
