New airstrip in Mara

A brand new airstrip on the 33.000 square acres large Olare Motorogi/Olare Orok Conservancy, which adjoins the Masai Mara Game Reserve, will make life easier for the camps nearby and cheaper to fly to for passengers arriving by air.

Previously passengers destined for the Olare Mara Kempinski had to pay 80 US Dollars for the privilege of landing at another airstrip, located inside the park boundaries, just to be picked by a camp vehicle from there even though they would spend their entire time on the conservancy and not inside the reserve.

Uncompromising behaviour then led to the new strip to be cleared, leaving the collectors baffled why suddenly the conservancy guests no longer land with them to get an 80 US Dollar handshake and ‘Habari‘ greeting.

From the new strip transfer times have been substantially reduced and all camps on the Olare Motorogi, and even some neighbouring conservancies now use the new facility.

Both major safari airlines, Safarilink and Air Kenya, have started to use the new strip and the savings now mean that probably a lot more people will fly directly into the conservancy strip as opposed to previously landing inside the reserve.

Notably is Richard Branson’s Mahali Mzuri Camp also located inside the Olare Motogori Conservancy as are the Kicheche Camp, Richard’s Camp, Mara Plains Camp and the Porini Lions Camp, all of them now beneficiaries of the new strip.
