Quirkiest Hotel in Kenya

20th December, 2017 10:53:02

Segera Retreat is set in the heard of Laikipia, one of Kenya’s most exciting safari locations. But what sets it apart from others is their Nay Palad Bird Nest, a raised suite that offers a 360-degree view over the surrounding plains of Laikipia.

The bird’s nest is a two-level suite, built with interwoven tree branches and a circular viewing platform up top, which looks over a review next to a river well-stocked with wildlife.

Guests can sleep in the main quarters within the confines of the first level, or if you’re adventurous, then sleep on the upper level in the open-air setup.

This site is more of a one-night experience, where guest are ferried here following a game drive just before sun set to enjoy a picnic style dinner on the upper level.  In the morning, guests are served breakfast and possibly a gathering of wildlife at the riverbank.

The Bird Nest is the brainchild of Nay Palad, founder Carolin Dekeyser, her father Bobby Deskeyser and architect Daniel Pouzet, in association with Segera founder Jochen Zeitz.
