Radisson Blu to open in Nairobi

30th November, -0001 00:00:00

Radisson Blu, an international hotel chain, is set to launch its first Kenyan hotel in Nairobi, the country’s capital city. The hotel, set to open in 2015, is situated in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi.

In 2012, the chain announced plans to enter into the East African hospitality market. It had initially set an August 2014 deadline to fully commence operations, but market challenges forced it to extend that deadline to next year.

The Raddison Blu hotel, a 5-star property, has 271 rooms. It also features a 600-square meter ballroom for conferences, an all-day restaurant and grill, and a health club.

The presence of Radisson Blu, a subsidiary of Calson Rezidor, in Kenya will make the country a top investment destination for business and leisure tourists. It is also expected to launch a business and leisure facility, Park Inn Nairobi by the end of this year. The facility is an addition to Park Inn Cape Coast and Park Inn Rwanda. Both are also expected to be launched later this year.

According to Business Daily, it is projected that Nairobi will, in four years, have 1,437 additional bed capacity. Currently, the country needs between 10,000 to 15,000 more hotel beds.

It has been reported that big names such as Best Western, Acor, Kempinski, Duist International and Marriot, are all keen on entering the promising hospital market in Kenya.

Radisson Blu already holds significant presence within Africa, with hotels in top markets including Ethiopia, South Africa, Rwanda, Cote D’ivore and Nigeria.
