The Nairobi Serena Hotel opened on September 1, after completing the first phase of its current refurbishments project. The hotel is doing its refurbishments in two phases, with the first phase seeing 95 of its rooms upgraded with double-glazed acoustic windows, new fire, security and safety features, new high-speed lifts, energy-efficient lighting and modern air-conditioning systems.

There is a new Executive Lounge with private meeting rooms and panoramic views of the Nairobi skyline, and a new ballroom with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment. The new Fusion Restaurant will open in November, and the second phase of the upgrades will be completed by April 2019.
