SINGLE VISA TO ATTRACT MORE TOURISTS

The recently launched Single Tourist Visa covering Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda is expected to attract more tourists to the region. Amb. Valentine Rugwabiza, the Chief Executive Officer Rwanda Development Board told a news conference last week, "We expect the number of tourists to double because of the ease in acquiring such a visa and the different tourist packages offered in the three different countries," she said.
The visa is issued after payment of $100.

During the International Tourismus-Borse (ITB) tourism fair in Berlin Germany recently, the three Northern Corridor countries had a common pavilion which helped them market the region as a prime tourism destination.

They also used the chance to promote the new visa. Kenya High Commissioner to Rwanda, John Mwangemi also emphasized the issue saying this was going to promote tourism since there were no other countries across the world with such a single visa. "Tourist can now travel freely in the three countries and enjoy the different diversified products there is," he said.

He said this was again going to attract more investors to the region and create jobs to the people. At the fair, the three countries were ranked among the five top exhibitors and each of them showcased the different distinct attractions. Various traditional dancers added colour and reflected the diversity of the East African destination.

Rwanda was selected the best continental exhibitor, while Kenya came in 3rd place and Uganda the 5th.
