South African Airways Charts New Course with Upcoming Routes and Revenue Surge

South African Airways (SAA) plans to launch new routes from Johannesburg to Lubumbashi and Dar es Salaam in November 2024, as part of its ongoing recovery and growth strategy following its return to operations in September 2021. Interim CEO Professor John Lamola reported significant progress, with the fleet expanding from six to 16 aircraft and passenger revenue increasing by 400% over the past three years. Despite challenges such as aircraft supply constraints and a delay in publishing financial results due to an audit disagreement, SAA has shown steady revenue growth, reaching R7.3 billion for the 2023/24 financial year. The airline is exploring financing options for further expansion and enhancing customer service, while also managing a portfolio of assets valued at R5.5 billion.
