Turkish Cargo has transported five white rhinos to a state-controlled national park in Shanghai, where they are meant to raise awareness about the devastating toll that poaching has taken on the worldwide rhino populations. Illegal hunting (poaching) has almost made the white rhino extinct nearly a hundred years ago, with only 50-100 left in the wild in the early 1900s. The numbers are now around 20,000, but the demand for rhino horns in Asian markets keeps the animals at great risk for poaching. 

 

 

Turkish Cargo’s mandate is to transport live animals between qualified zoos and private institutions or acknowledged preservation and rehabilitation centres in order to prevent illegal animal trafficking, and the transport of the animals was completed with all documentation in order and animal safety guidelines followed.
