Tours Strategy Meeting 2015

The Rickshaw Travels Group TOURS team had their annual strategy meet in Zanzibar this past month. The purpose of this meeting was to clarify the overall purpose and desired results of the organization, and how those results will be achieved. In attendance were the Board members of Rickshaw Travels Group and employees who deal with corporate travel, tours and holiday packages from all our group offices inclacuding Canada, UK, Scandinavia, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Kenya Airways to fly direct to Vietnam

Kenya Airways has begun flying one of its new B787 Dreamliner aircrafts between Nairobi and Hanoi, and onwards to Guangzhou. Its maiden flight departed from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2220 hours on 30th March 2015 and arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport at 1155 hours local time on 31st March 2015. It will be flying 3 times weekly (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) between Nairobi and Hanoi and connecting onwards to Guangzhou.

Kenya's Mombasa road-based Ole Sereni Hotel set for expansion

Kenya Commercial Bank has reportedly agreed to finance the expansion of the Mombasa road-based Ole Sereni Hotel, furthering the bank's engagement in the sector after previously co-financing to the tune of more than 5 billion Kenya shillings (US$53.3 million) the recently-opened English Point Marina development in Mombasa.

Rwanda proves that its strongest industry is tourism

The tourism sector of Rwanda has contributed immensely to the economy of the country by fetching revenue worth 304.9 million U.S. dollars in 2014. The reports from the Central African Nations have been quite promising with 1.22 million visitors in 2014, compared to 1.122 million in the previous year, an annual increase of 97,000 visitors.

Zanzibar tourism opens first international office in Mumbai

Zanzibar Tourism Promotion Centre (ZPTC) has made its foray into India by opening an office in Mumbai - the first one outside Africa – indicating the importance it places on the growing Indian outbound market. In Mumbai, it will be headed by Jilesh Babla, Director of ZTPC India. The five-member delegation from Zanzibar was in Mumbai to meet key trade partners including airlines, travel associations and even film and TV biggies like director Kunal Kapoor and Chef Sanjiv Kapoor.

The Wyndham Hotel Group opened its first hotel in East Africa, the Ramada Resort Dar es Salaam in Tanzania's capital city. The beachfront property has 139 rooms, including 117 superior rooms, 21 executive suites and one presidential suite. read more

Rwanda: French hotel chain acquires la Palisse hotel. The management of La Palisse Hotel in Nyamata has signed a 10-year manage-ment agreement with a French hotels chain, Golden Tulip Hotel and Resorts. Under the deal, the hotel will change the brand name to Golden Tulip La Palisse Kigali. read more
