Annual Migration of the Wildebeest

It's a sight to behold, the sheer number of animals moving together as far as your eye can see, across the plains of Serengeti. The annual migration this time of year is in the Mara Region in Northern Serengeti and across the border into Kenya in Masai Mara. The animals at the centre of this migration are the wildebeest, 1.5 million of them, who are heading this way in search of fresh grass. Together with the Zebra, they become prey of the predators like the crocodiles who lie in wait for them to cross the Grumeti River and Mara River. The other predators like the lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena will also have a feast of their own.

Update: Lions Released in Akagera National Park

African Parks, in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board, has released seven translocated lions into Akagera National Park. The five females, from &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, and two males, from Tembe Elephant Park, both in the South African province of KwaZulu Natal, were brought to Rwanda at the end of June in a ground breaking conservation effort for the country.

Uganda Increases Visa Fees

The visa fee for all foreign visitors traveling into Uganda only has increased to US $100 per person. Effective immediately, all visitors to Uganda must be prepared to pay $100 for their visas which are still obtainable upon arrival.

Turkish Airlines launches new route to Dammam, Saudi Arabia

Turkish Airlines has introduced a new route to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. Turkish Airlines ranks among the world's major airlines, with a flight network reaching 276 destinations in 110 countries

Qatar Airways has launched flights to Zanzibar

The airline's third gateway in Tanzania after Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. The new five-times-a-week flight to Zanzibar operates via Kilimanjaro. The current Kilimanjaro flights which today are served by Qatar Airways via Dar es Salaam will be made non-stop from Doha to Kilimanjaro commencing 1st July 2015, with return flights from Kilimanjaro to Doha served via Zanzibar.

11th Annual Kwita Izina 2015

On 5th September, 2015, the Rwanda Development Board will host the eleventh Kwita Izina, naming 24 baby gorillas, the newest arrivals born after last year's ceremony. This year's Kwita Izina will take place as we embark on carrying out another general census of the gorilla population in the Virunga Massif following the one that was carried out in 2010. In 2010, the gorilla population registered a 26.3% growth in a period of 7 years from 2003. The theme for Kwita Izina 2015 is conserving now and for the future.

New York Stock Exchange-listed company Hilton Worldwide has announced it has signed a franchise agreement with Reliance Hotels to open Hilton Garden Inn hotel at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. The hotel becomes the 12th Hilton Garden Inn property under development in Africa, and is expected to open in early 2016. read more

Thank you for arranging a once-in-a-lifetime memorable trip to see the gorillas in Rwanda. It was fantastic and we had a fabulous time. The entire trip from beginning to end was well organized. Our guide Abu is a gem...he knew everything and he is a great driver. We all loved him. All hotels were excellent in terms of accommodations. The only minor issue is with the food at the Gorilla Lodge. The food was mediocre at best, but the accommodations were excellent. Service throughout the trip was excellent. We cannot thank you enough. We look forward to sending our other friends to Rwanda :)
