HAMZA AZIZ SCHOOL

KEY FACTS

-  Choir travelled around the world, sold CDs and Documentary (From Rags to Rhapsody).  Funds used to build school, buy books, pay or upkeep, etc.

-  Two brick building machines bought – one to make bricks for school property, the other to make bricks to sell to local community for profit, to be used to provide low income housing for community.

DETAILS - HAMZA AZIZ MEMORIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL – This school was built with corporate and individual donations which flowed in for the Golden Pride Choir from 2003 onwards. The funds collected from the sale of the CD’s were also used to fund this project.  To date, the school has grown in scope and student numbers have increased to approximately 325, with 7 full-time teachers and 5 part-time teachers, with 1 cook and 1 watchman.

Although the school ranking is not what the Board hoped for, the new Headmaster is optimistic that the results this year will be better because the students have performed much better under his leadership.  The headmaster is determined to support the students and make this school an example to other neighboring schools.

The school also faces a lot of challenges, e.g., lack of sufficient text books, teachers’ quarters, girls’ dorm, water issues, and a chemistry lab that needs to be fully functional.

To help the school generate income to resolve these issues, two manual interlocking brick machines were purchased.  One machine to be used exclusively to make bricks for the school projects and one for commercial brick making.  The school will sell the bricks to the local community to generate income as well as benefit the local community by making bricks available for their own use.

We believe the money will go a long way and provide us with time to solicit more funds. The idea is to make this school a pilot project.  Any funds generated through donations will assist in building low income housing for the local community.

The Hamza Aziz Educational Trust Fund has been set up to provide financial assistance to outstanding students to allow them to excel in their studies.
