Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake surrounded by forests of Yellow Barked Acacia also known as Yellow Fever trees. The forest is abound with bird life and makes it a bird watcher’s paradise with over 350 species recorded. There is a healthy population of hippos as well. Activities such as boat rides and visits to Crescent Island are popular here.
The Masai Mara, arguably Kenya’s most popular game reserve, lies in the Great Rift Valley and where the annual migration of around 1.5 million of wildebeest together with zebras and gazelles takes place. They come across the Mara River from northern Serengeti in Tanzania in search of fresh short grass. This migration is a never ending cycle through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The defining influence on the migration is the weather, so there is no telling exactly where the migration will be during the year, only best estimates can be made. Other wildlife in the Mara are impala, top, giraffe, leopards, lions, hyenas, cheetah. You might even spot the elusive black rhino at a distance. Hippos are abundant in the Mara River together with the large crocodiles. If you are going to do a safari, this is one spectacle not to be missed.
