Aberdares National Park - Set in the heart of the Aberdares National Park, The Ark overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick which attracts a host of awesome wildlife such as elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally an elusive bongo or giant forest hog.
Lake Nakuru National Park - The park boasts a huge variety of animals, including leopard which is often found snoozing on the branches of the magnificent yellow-barked acacias, lion, buffalo, hippo, waterbuck, warthog, baboon, the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe only found in this park in Kenya, white rhino and the rare black rhino which is protected and guarded hereMeal Plan: Full Board
Masai Mara - Teeming with wildlife, the Mara is famous for large herds of elephant and buffalo that meander its plains, and for the fat pods of hippo that wallow in its mud-brown rivers. With its abundance of herbivores, the Mara makes an ideal hunting ground for big cats. Here you will find Kenya’s largest population of lions, and your best chance of spotting a leopard in the wild. Other predators include cheetah and spotted hyena. Keep watch for the distinctive Maasai giraffe, plum-colored topi, Coke’s hartebeest, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, bushbuck, waterbuck, and red duiker.
Serengeti National Park - The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates greatest park during a Serengeti safari. Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while a high density of cheetahs prowls the southeastern plains. Almost uniquely, all three African jackal species occur here, alongside the spotted hyena and a host of more elusive small predators, ranging from the insectivorous aardwolf to the beautiful serval cat. But there is more to a safari in the Serengeti Plain than large mammals. Gaudy agama lizards and rock hyraxes scuffle around the surfaces of the park's isolated granite koppies. A full 100 varieties of dung beetle have been recorded, as have 500-plus bird species, ranging from the outsized ostrich and bizarre secretary bird of the open grassland, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.
Lake Manyara - Tucked below the majesty of the Rift Valley wall, Lake Manyara National Park consists of a thin green band of forest, flanked by the sheer 600 m high red and brown cliffs of the escarpment on one side and by the white-hot shores of an ancient soda lake on the other. Acacia woodland shelters the park’s famous tree climbing lions, lying languidly among the branches in the heat of the day. Lake Manyara safaris offers many unique views including elephant, giraffe, buffalo and wildebeest can be found grazing in unexpected clearings or heading towards the water to drink or wash, and the rivers and riverbeds provide scenic vistas for possible animal spotting.
DAY 1 : Arrival – Nairobi - Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by a Rickshaw representative who will assist with the transfer to your hotel for overnight. Meal Plan: Bed and Breakfast
DAY 2 : Nairobi - Aberdares National Park - Breakfast at the lodge this morning before driving north to Mweiga for lunch at Aberdare country club. After lunch the club transport takes you into the Aberdares National Park to the Ark. Every deck of the Ark overlooks the popular waterhole where occasionally the elusive bongo can be seen. Dinner and overnight at The Ark. Meal Plan: Full Board.
Day 3: Aberdares National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park - Following breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru which is the most famous of the Great Rift Valley lakes and home to a shifting population of over one million flamingos. Arrive for lunch at your camp. You will have an afternoon game viewing drive at Lake Nakuru National Park, a shallow alkaline lake that is world-renowned for its huge concentration of flamingos; at times, hundreds of thousands of these birds give the lake a pink shimmering glow. Day 4 - Lake Nakuru National Park - Spend another day in this park.
Day 5 - Lake Nakuru National Park - Maasai Mara National Reserve - After breakfast, drive to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, backdrop to 'the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth', the annual migration of over one million wildebeest. Arrive in time for lunch at your camp / lodge. Spend the afternoon on safari in Kenya's most popular reserve. Arrive back in lodge in time for a swim, a hot shower and dinner. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 6: Maasai Mara National Reserve - Spend the day on safari in Africa's richest wildlife viewing arena. Historically teeming with wildlife, the Mara hosts Kenya's largest lion prides and elephant herds. Other predators include leopard, cheetah and spotted hyena; while in the Mara River you will see fat pods of hippo and vast Nile crocodiles.
Other highlights include giraffe tops, gazelle, zebra, buffalo and over 550 species of birds.
Optional activities abound while you’re in the Maasai Mara. You can try a balloon safari for an exhilarating experience over the savannah as the early sun rises and the animals are more active. If you wish, for a nominal fee, you can also visit a Maasai Village to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life and see their colorful culture Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 7: Maasai Mara National Reserve - Lake Victoria - After breakfast this morning, drive towards Lake Victoria. Lunch en route. Arrive in the afternoon at Speke Bay Lodge. Rest of the day at leisure. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 8 & 9: Lake Victoria - Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, depart for the famous Serengeti national park arriving for lunch at your lodge / camp. Embark on an afternoon game viewing drive in the park. Return later as the sun sets for dinner and overnight. On the second day, you will have a full day of game viewing drives in the park with all meals and overnight at the park. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 10: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Conservation Area - You will have an early morning game viewing before breakfast. Depart for Ngorongoro conservation area stopping en route at Ol Duvai Gorge. Known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’, this is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world. Pioneered by famous paleontologists Louis and Mary Leakey in the 1950s it offers a glimpse into life two million years ago.
Picnic lunch en route. Arrive later in the afternoon at your lodge. Rest of the day at leisure. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 11: Ngorongoro Conservation Area - Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife. Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo) as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators.
Climb up and depart to the beautiful Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley. You will arrive for lunch at your lodge followed by afternoon game drive. Warthog seem to thrive here, growing notably fat and tuskered, and it is a natural playground for baboons and monkeys. Later on in the afternoon, you will be transferred to which stands on the edge of the escarpment, overlooking the lake. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 12: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha – Nairobi - Departure
After breakfast this morning, drive to Arusha. Board the 1400hrs shuttle back to Nairobi arriving at 1800hrs. You will be transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for the departure flight back home.
Alternatively, you will be transferred from Arusha to the Kilimanjaro airport for departure flight OR you may choose to fly to Zanzibar for beach stay.
