Embark on a captivating 4-day journey through Comoros' largest island, Ngazidja. From the warm welcome in Moroni to the exploration of Iconi's rich history and the volcanic wonders of Grande Comore, this itinerary is a blend of culture and natural beauty. Day 4 takes you through Moroni's charming old stone town, vibrant markets, and local flavors before bidding farewell to this enchanting island.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel
Namkaribu! Welcome to Ngazidja, Comoros’ largest island. Transfer from Moroni Airport to the hotel and check-in. The evening is yours to enjoy as you take in the view of the coastline and prepare for your upcoming days of discovery.
Day 2: Iconi and Legends of the North
Visit the city of Iconi, seat of Bambao sultanate. Leaving Iconi, drive through the central part of Grande Comore, crossing the Diboini Plateau to the north. Discover the geographical features created after many years of volcanic action including Dos du dragon, Lac Salé, Miraculous Mosque, and Trou du Prophète. Enjoy lunch in the shade of a baobab tree at Trou du Prophète, swim in the ocean at Maloudja beach and return to the hotel at 1700.
Day 3: Expedition Karthala
Enjoy an incredible trek to the top of Mt. Karthala, the active volcano which towers over the island. Tour the caldera, enjoy a picnic lunch, and return to the hotel at 1700.
Day 4: Moroni: Medina, markets, and departure
Experience a walking tour of the old stone town of Moroni and its architecture. Spend some time in the markets, taking in the local goldsmiths, tropical spices, and fresh-caught seafood. Enjoy lunch at a downtown restaurant and then transfer to the airport for departure in the afternoon.Includes:
