Affordable Destinations for 2018

As 2018 draws near, many astute travelers will be reviewing their travel plans to see where in the world they will go for a culturally enhancing experience without breaking the bank.

If you’re one of those travelers, allow us to suggest some places around world that offer not just amazing scenery and adventures, but are also rich in history, culture and provide some delicious culinary experiences.

Not in any particular order they are:

1. India

This vast country is great for a traveler on budget as it is only one of a handful of countries where you can enjoy a lot for a little.  If you’ve never been to India, start with the Golden Triangle. The weather is great from now until April, though January and February can get quite cold due to the Himalayan influence.  Yes, there is poverty in India, but don’t get hung up on it.  Lifestyles have changed and there is another whole side to India.  Enjoy your trip in a chauffeur driven car or try the Shatabdi Express train between most cities.

2. Egypt

This country might be overlooked by a lot of travelers, but it’s definitely an option because it is a cheap destination right now.  Visit the famous pyramids, cruise the Nile and shop in the Khan el-Khalili bazar. Food is relatively cheap and so is the beer.

3. Thailand

The flights might cost you but once you’re there, you can stay and eat for cheap, especially if you stay and eat with the locals. The people are genuine and friendly with about 95 percent of the population being Buddhists.  If you’re a backpacker, or not, there are many islands to discover, food to enjoy and Thailand is great for diving and snorkeling. There are also great adventures to be had and beaches to discover.

4. Malaysia

Once you’ve taken in the sights and sounds of Metropolis Kuala Lumpur, head out to the lush forests and stunning beaches.  Malaysia is a central hub for most of Southeast Asia so a layover or extended trip is recommended. It has a fascinating history and is a multicultural melting pot of Asian culture with strong influences from China, India and the rest of Southeast Asia.

5.  Cambodia

Here you can enjoy five star luxury without the five star price tag and this has made Cambodia a popular destination for travelers heading to Southeast Asia. There is so much more to Cambodia than Angkor Wat. The weather is dry from November to May, the people are kind and generous and the food is humble and comforting. Bustling markets can be found all over the country packed with everything from sneakers to produce and these crowded markets are not to be missed if you want to get the feel of daily life in Cambodia.

6. Romania

Not many people think of Romania when they think of travelling to Europe, but consider a visit as everything from accommodation, transportation to food is very inexpensive. It’s well connected by trains, buses and planes.  It has really good food, beautiful scenery, medieval towns and old authentic villages and beautiful castles and fortresses. The people of Romania are also very friendly and hospitable and very welcoming of foreigners, so don’t count out Romania when thinking about Europe.

7. Portugal

One of Europe’s most picturesque countries and is incredible in so many ways, Portugal has lush landscapes, coast-side cliffs and golden beaches.  The capital Lisbon is a bustling city for those who enjoy not just the night life but but it’s incredible beaches.  Portugal also has sleepy fishing villages and towns steeped in tradition.  Try swimming in the lava pools and other outdoor adventures like kayaking through the Lagos sea caves, biking along the Algarve coast and hiking along the Rota Vicentina trail. Fresh seafood, famous Portuguese pastries and some of the finest wine will keep you coming back for more.
