Cultural Holidays: 3 Ways to Enjoy Them

The world of travel has become more diverse in the 21st century. There is a growing interest among travellers in learning about the local communities, exploring their cultures and understanding their traditions and way of life.
Here are 3 ways to enjoy a cultural holiday and to be more engaged with the host community if you want to have more meaningful and conscientious travel experiences.

Explore Historical Sites

Historical sites are both entertaining and informative. Exploring the host community's history is a thrilling experience. Take a trip down memory lane in museums, battlefields, historical buildings, and neighbourhoods. Moreover, you can learn about the fascinating cultures, people, legends, and even weapons and tools that were used in the past.

Visit Indigenous Communities

Get to know, connect with, and engage with indigenous people. Open your mind to the indigenous way of life... its history, politics, culture, and traditions.
East Africa is home to hundreds of indigenous groups mostly pastoralists and hunters-gatherers. These groups each have distinct and unique traditions.
According to the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee (IPACC);
The pastoralists include; the Maasai, Samburu, Borana, Rendille, Gabra, El Molo, Turkana, Pokot, of Kenya, the Karamajong of Uganda, the Datoga-Barabaig of Tanzania and the Mursi of Ethiopia.
Hunters and gatherers include; the Ogiek, Sengwer, Endorois, Aweer, Waata, Elmolo, Yiaku, of Kenya, the Batwa, Ilk, Soo, Benet, Aasax of Uganda and the Akie Hadzabe and Sandawe of Tanzania.

Observe the way of life

Living with the locals is a great way to get an authentic experience. Experience the local ways, learn the language, indulge in local food and drink, and explore the landscape and places the locals love.
It is important to keep in mind that some cultures are more sensitive when it comes to their customs and way of doing things than others. Be respectful and to learn how to adapt.

Consider adding cultural experiences to your holiday itinerary as you prepare your festive holiday plans.
