Nairobi National Park, a jewel under the sun, is unique considering the fact that it is a mere 20-minute drive from the city centre and the only one of its kind in the world. Averaging an estimated 117 sq. Kms in size, you are likely to experience big game in their natural habitat and that would include the lion, buffalo, both white and black rhino as well as the stealthy leopard. Antelope and Giraffe are also found in abundance, so too a variety of colourful birds.
The park however does face challenges which threaten the existence of wildlife.
The tourism fraternity has been working alongside park authorities to clear out some of the invasive plant species (Parthenium). Dominance of this weed threatens biodiversity.
The other challenge happens to be brought about by humans, visitors to the park mindlessly discarding single use plastic containers in the open.
In the just concluded park clean up organized by the Tour Operators Society of Kenya in conjunction with Kenya Wildlife Services, tour operators, environment activists and the media participated.
The Rickshaw Travels participated in this cleaning up exercise. We strongly support creating awareness of the same and in the importance of sustainable tourism.
Touching your soul with the spirit of Africa!
