Places to Visit in Naivasha

Naivasha is only a 2 hour drive from Nairobi and is a great location to visit, either for a day trip or to spend the night. If you’re looking to do something other than a game drive, here are some fun activities and things to do in Naivasha:

Take a dip in the Geothermal Spa at Hells Gate National Park

Outdoor activities are a great way to spend the day and explore new places. You can either go for a day trip or spend the night camping at Hells Gate which lies south of Lake Naivasha. Hells Gate National Park activities include – rock climbing, horse riding, game viewing, hiking and bird watching. The Olkaria Geothermal Spa which is inside Hells Gate National Park, is a natural hot spring, surrounded by breathtaking views. Definitely a place to be visit if you decide to spend a day at Hells Gate.

Walk with the animals at Crescent Island

Located in Naivasha, Crescent Island is another perfect choice for a day trip. You can either climb to the top to enjoy 360 degrees view of Lake Naivasha, also a good spot for a picnic, or you can walk on the fields with the animals. Yes, you don’t need to be inside your vehicle to view the animals from a distance. The animals are harmless and it is truly an incredible experience to walk in the same vicinity as the animals with beautiful views of the lake. The animals you are most likely to spot are zebra, giraffe, deer, antelope, sheep and a variety of bird species.

Zip Line at Kereita Forest

The zip line at Kereita Forest has become very popular amongst the local residents. Situated only 65 kms from Nairobi, the Kereita Forest is an ideal spot to plan a day trip filled with lots of fun activities. It is the longest zip tour in East Africa at over 2200 meters, offering scenic and breathtaking views of the forest and with a distant view of Mount Kenya. The instructors are friendly, informative and provide training prior to your zip line experience to ensure safety. Other activities at the Kereita Forest include paint balling, archery, mountain biking, fly fishing and tree planting.

Camp by the Lake at Oloiden Campsite                                            

Naivasha has plenty of choices for camping but one of the best campsite is Oloiden, offering panoramic views of the lake. It is a surreal experience camping right next to the lake where you can see the hippos and many beautiful birds. The tents are big and clean and the staff are always happy to help. The campsite provides all the camping facilities from tents, mattresses, a bonfire, a restaurant and very clean bathrooms. You can also take a boat ride which can be organized at the campsite.
