Kenya is well known for its “out of Africa” experiences, particularly the bush and beach safaris. The majorly known sandy beaches are those in North and South Coast of Mombasa, Malindi, Watamu and Lamu.
Little is known of the west coast of Kenya, which has white sandy beaches found on the shores of Lake Victoria islands. It would be best to experience this side of Kenya after enjoying a safari at Maasai Mara or Serengeti. The west coast is easily accessible by road and air.
Southwards of Kisumu and East of Lake Victoria, lays the dreamland of the ancient historic magical Island of Rusinga. It is a place with amazing skies and birds which offers you more of the aquatic culture of Lake Victoria. Rusinga Island also hosts the mausoleum of the late Tom Mboya, who is one of the most prominent personalities in Kenyan history.
Annually, on the last Thursday and Friday before Christmas, there is the Rusinga Festival that takes place at Rusinga Island. The festival offers two days of music, fashion, film, food, artistry, literature, sports and conversations that take you back in time into the wealth of the Suba Culture.
Some of other activities you can engage in are; connecting with nature, boat rides and fishing, bird watching, palaeontology and history, cultural visit and a visit to Ruma National Park.
Experience something new; weather, land, culture and nature.
