Traveling during a Pandemic

As many of us cope with unparalleled challenges in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, logistical issues, uncertainties in work commitments and limitations in our daily routines being affected by the current global situation, it is worth noting that many countries and leisure destinations have already successfully opened their doors to tourists or are gradually getting ready to welcome again incoming travellers.

While many countries, including Tanzania, have been endorsed as safe to travel, some are still experiencing lock downs, or applying restrictions to international travel and movement limitations.

Around the world, response to curb the pandemic has been involving a vast range of measures and health and safety standard operating procedures adopted by countries, tourism stakeholders, hotels, tour operators and logistics agents in order to mitigate the risk of infection.

Indeed, travel is very much possible, but for hassle free journeys, up-to-date and reliable information is more crucial than ever either for business or leisure post-COVID travellers.

At many airports passengers can now be tested for possible positivity with the COVID-19 virus. It is the so-called RT-PCR test, which detects whether an acute infection with the COVID-19 virus is active.
It is very important, before undertaking any travel plans, to establish whether an “open destination” imposes mandatory COVID-19 clearance certificates on arrival.

It is also recommended to determine whether a travel destination requires mandatory travel insurance expressly covering COVID-19 treatments.

Besides, when landing to several countries, including United Arab Emirates, one must download mobile applications in support of contact tracing for COVID-19.

YES, during COVID the travel experience has definitely changed, BUT you can make it a safe and smooth one.

The air on aircraft is filtered and the filters are normally able to get rid of even small viruses from the air.
However we all have become familiar with face masks and not surprisingly they must be worn at all times while in airports and planes.
Most of the international airlines require face coverings while flying. Some provide them on board to their passengers as part of personal protection equipment kits, some even equip passengers with face shields…

Hand sanitizers are also been deployed to virtually all airports worldwide and passengers can pass through airport security and board carrying their owns.

Disinfectant wipes and gloves have also become our travel companions.

Airport long waiting lines and congestion at security checks might become the norm.

Last but not least, given the continuous trends’ developments in the pandemic, travellers should keep themselves updated and adapt accordingly to ever changing travel policies.
