WELCOMING RAMADAN - WHAT TO EXPECT?

RAMADAN - The holy month of Ramadan (Ramazan) is approaching and is expected to start on July 9 and observed until August 7, 2013 and it is Rickshaw's pleasure to share with you some information that visitors need to keep in mind when they are travelling to predominantly Muslim countries where Ramadan is observed as part of their culture.

If you happen to be in any one of these countries, you may notice some businesses may have shorter working hours, restaurants may require reservations, city traffic may be heaviest just before sunset as people travel to spend time with family and friends to break their fast.

If you're not sure about customs and rituals in the country that you are visiting during Ramadan, there is plenty of information to be found online. So plan ahead, learn the basis of Ramadan so you can get into the spirit of it.  You may have to shift your schedules as nightly festivities trump early bedtimes, and streets become alive with light displays, music and hospitality galore.

Learn about the guidelines and ask your hosts if you're not sure.  For instance, it is considered polite to not eat and drink in public and hotels do make arrangements for their non-fasting guests.  Ramadan Kareem to all our Muslim friends.
