Review of COVID-19 testing fee for travelers in Tanzania

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world, where Tanzania received the first case of COVID-19 patient on 16 March 2020, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania continued to take various measures including testing of travelers entering and leaving the country.

In addition, the Government has continued to provide various guidelines including Traveler Advisory and improve it to suit the trend of COVID-19 disease. The cost of testing COVID-19 for travelers entering and entering the country is paid by the travelers themselves at a rate of one hundred dollars ($ 100) equivalent to two hundred and thirty Tanzanian shillings (Tsh 230,000 / =) at the rate of RT PCR and twenty twenty dollars five ($ 25) equivalent to fifty-seven thousand five hundred Tanzanian shillings (Tsh 57,500 / =) for the Antigen RAPID TEST for all travelers.

On May 04, 2021 Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania paid a working visit to Kenya. Following the visit, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan, gave instructions to resolve the issue of permits and COVID-19 testing for passengers crossing the inland border between Kenya and Tanzania. Mr. President directed the Ministers of both countries to meet to end these challenges.

Following the directive of His Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly and Children (WAMJW) has reviewed the cost of testing for UVIKO-19 disease for all travelers in the country and looking for ways to reduce costs. those to enable more travelers to access this important service.

As a result of the review and analysis of the cost of testing for COVID-19 disease, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has reduced the cost of testing for COVID-19 disease from US $ 100 to US $ 50 by RT PCR and eliminating costs Antigen RAPID TEST tests at borders except airports where travelers will pay only $ 10 for the Antigen RAPID TEST test. Implementation of these cost reductions commences on 16/08/2021.

The reason for lowering the cost of UVIKO-19 testing is due to operating costs allocated by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through its budget for the financial year 2021/2022.
