The Everest Base Camp trek has been hyping up many passionate and enthusiastic adventurous people making it a journey of a lifetime. The journey to the EBC trek itself holds legendary history created by two famous pairs on May 29, 1953. It’s no other than Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir Tenzing Norgay who have paved the way for future trekkers to the world's tallest mountain “Everest” through EBC which is located on the southern slopes of Nepal. Hillary and Norgay were the ones who stored their supplies at the base of the mountain which was a wise decision and therefore gave birth to Everest Base Camp. Everest doesn’t stand alone on the land of the Khumbu region, it stands with other magnificent renowned mountains such as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Mera Peak, Nuptse, Makalu, Island Peak and many more. Hence, trekkers got to gaze upon the entire astounding Himalayan ranges en route to EBC.
EBC trek gives the opportunity to have up-close contact with the highest peak. At the beginning and end of your journey, you'll take the world’s most thrilling and scenic flight to and from Lukla. These impressive landscapes have many more to offer including alluring glaciers, dazzling peaks, and beautiful forests, visit ancient Buddhist monasteries, magnificent lakes, etc. Moreover, you will be introduced to Sherpa cultures, traditions, and lifestyles and savour their local cuisine. Sherpas are such adorable people who are renowned for their good hospitality, cheerfulness, and humorous nature. Plus, you may get a chance to encounter rare and endangered wild species including Musk deer, Red panda, Snow leopards, Himalayan Tahrs, etc. At the time of spring, the trek route looks inviting as Himalayan flowers bloom making your trip vibrant and lively, especially rhododendrons of different colours. Highlights
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
The journey begins with your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Here, our company representative will receive you and take you to the hotel. After you freshen up, you can explore some of the Newari heritage.
Day 2: Kathmandu – Lukla [2,840m] by flight, 35 mins – Trek from Lukla to Phakding, 3-4 hrs trek
The initial aspect of the journey takes us to Lukla which involves taking a short flight from Kathmandu. The flight provides a thorough display of the mountains of the Everest range. After arriving in Lukla, we shall collect our stuff and then head to Phakding. We need to walk through the Chheplung village and cross the amazing Dudh Koshi River to reach Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.
Day 3: Trek from Phakding – Namche Bazaar 6-8 hrs
From Phakding, the trail traverses through the pine forests and later heads north up the Bengkar valley. Along the way, we shall be accompanied by the Dudh Koshi River and we shall pass through Chhuthawa and Monjo. After getting our permits checked in Jorsalle, we shall head on the steep trail to reach Namche Bazar. It is the biggest village in the Everest region and is primarily inhabited by the Sherpas. Overnight in Namche Bazar.
Day 4: Namche Bazaar: Acclimatization and exploration day
The motive for the day is to not indulge in heavy trekking, but rather spend the day exploring the Namche Bazaar and acclimatizing. You can visit the Khumjung Monastery near the Khumjung village which houses the scalp of a Yeti. You can even dine in the Hotel Everest View which is the hotel at the highest altitude in the world. Overnight in Namche Bazar.
Day 5: Trek from Namche Bazaar – Tengboche 5-6 hrs
The altitude increases rapidly as we first walk all the way to Sanasa. Trekking along the Imja River, we reach Phunke and slowly head towards the Tengboche village. This village houses the amazing Tengboche Monastery which is the biggest monastery in the Everest region. From the monastery, you can catch jaw-dropping sight of mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m), and Nuptse (7861m). Overnight in Tengboche.
Day 6: Trek from Tengboche - Dingboche 5-6 hrs
The trail initially descends through the forests decorated with fir and rhododendron. As we trek ahead, we are blessed with views of Lobuche (6119m) and Ama Dablam (6856m). We shall take a breather at Debuche and then cross the Imja River to reach Pangboche. Explore the Pangboche Monastery and then reach Dingboche by crossing the fields of potato and barley. Overnight in Dingboche.
Day 7: Dingboche: Acclimatization and exploration day
In order to prepare ourselves for the day ahead, we won't be involved in any sort of trekking bit rather we shall spend the day acclimatizing. We shall climb the Nangkar Tshang Peak (5616m) and observe the majestic Himalayan peaks that rise above the Khumbu valley. Interact with the locals at Dingboche to learn about their Sherpa culture and traditions. Overnight in Dingboche.
Day 8: Trek from Dingboche – Lobuche 4-5 hrs
From Dingboche, the trail initially takes us to Thukla and from there, to Pheriche. The trail is pretty steep and slippery so tread carefully. After a while, we shall reach Chupki Lahara and we can even witness the Khumbu Glacier. After crossing the moraine, we arrive at Lobuche which is a small settlement with decent teahouses and small lodges. Overnight in Lobuche.
Day 9: Trek from Lobuche – Gorakshep [5,160m] – Everest Base Camp [5,364m] – Gorakshep, 7-8 hrs
The trail to Everest Base Camp takes us through glacial paths that meander through narrow slopes. As we head ahead, we reach Gorakshep which comprises small tents. Take a quick break there, and later make your way to the base camp. You can see the upper parts of the Khumbu Glacier and the mighty Mount Everest (8848m) from the base camp. The base camp provides us with picturesque glimpses of mountains like Nuptse (7861m), Khumbutse (6665m), and Pumo Ri (7165m). Overnight in Gorakshep.
Day 10: Trek from Gorakshep – Kalapatthar [5,545m] – Pheriche [4,280m] 7-8 hrs
The trail for the day takes us to Kalapatthar. To reach there, we must walk through the steep and snowy trail. We reach Kalapatthar in the early morning to catch the glorious sunrise that illuminates mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Cho Oyu (8201m), and Amadablam (6856m); and Nuptse (7861m). After observing the sunrise, we shall head back to Pheriche by retracing our steps. Overnight in Pheriche.
Day 11: Trek from Pheriche – Namche Bazaar 8-9 hrs
The trail for the day sees a drastic decrease in altitude as it takes us along the hills decorated with rhododendron and juniper. The descent is rapid and we can see pine forests, mountain goats, and pheasants. Along the way, admire the surreal views of mountains like Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m), and Nuptse (7861m). Upon arrival in Namche Bazar, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar – Lukla 7-8 hrs
Our descent continues today as well as we make our way back to Lukla. The downward trail shows us an amazing display of the snow-laden mountains and the Dudh Koshi River shall keep us company. We shall take a quick break at Phakding and later continue the journey until we arrive at Lukla. Overnight in Lukla.
Day 13: Flight from Lukla – Kathmandu 35 min flight
The journey for the day starts with a quick morning snack and catching a quick flight that takes you back to Kathmandu. The flight presents the mesmerizing beauty and allure of the Everest region. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. You can spend the remainder of the day going souvenir hunting in Thamel and Asan. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 14: Departure
It's departure day and our representative will meet you in time to pick you up at your hotel. We will drop you off at the airport before your scheduled flight and wish you good luck in your future endeavors.
