The absolutely indispensable, the flag attractions you cannot miss when coming to Costa Rica. This program takes us to mangroves in the Caribbean, two different active volcanoes, the cloud forest and has possible beach extensions developed further below.

Day 1: San José
You will be met at the airport and transferred to Studio hotel

Day 2: Poas Volcano
Today we will visit the Poas Volcano; this impressive volcano has a crater which is 300 m deep and 1500 m wide, usually active with smoke discharges. A trail leads us to a crystal blue lagoon, amidst tropical ferns and forest filled with exotic flowers and brilliantly plumed birds.
On the way back, we will visit Sarchi, where the center of production for the colorful oxcart that graced Costa Rican fields is located. Here we will have lunch. Once downtown San Jose, we will visit the National Museum once home to the abolished army, the National Theater finished in 1897 and the Central Park. Overnight stay at Studio hotel.

Day 3: Tortuguero
Today our transport service picks you up at your hotel and brings us to the province of Limon crossing the National Park “Braulio Carrillo”. For breakfast we will take a break at the Rio Danta Restaurant which offers us typical Costa Rican food. Afterwards, we will continue our trip towards the banana plantations of Puerto Astua in Matina (1 ½ hours). There our trip goes on by boat to Tortuguero Town and Sandbar which are located in the National Park. This last part of the drive is the most impressive one, because we will run through calm water, using different ways, surrounded by a magnificent nature. During the trip, the guide will point out birds and animals and will be explaining the natural history of the area. In the afternoon, our tour guide will offer us a walk through the town of Tortuguero so we get to know the lifestyle of the local people there living in within canals. Accommodations at Mawamba Lodge

Day 4: Tortuguero
Early in the morning at around 6 a.m., we are going to start the highlight of our tour. We will explore the narrow canals of the National Park by boat in search of caymans, sloths, toucans, turtles and monkeys. Within small boats without a canopy, we are able to enjoy the nature at its best! After the two hours trip, we will have breakfast in the Lodge. Afterwards our tour guide will offer an optional walk around the Tortuguero Hill (120 meters) or you can spend time relaxing at the pool. In the afternoon, we will continue with our boat tour through the wide amount of canals for another two hours. Accommodations at Mawamba Lodge

Day  5: Arenal volcano
After breakfast, we leave the hotel around 9 a.m. After a short break in Puerto Astua in Matima, we will continue our trip by bus and will then have a delicious lunch at the Rio Danta Restaurant (included). You are able to leave from there to the volcano area at around 4:30 p.m by private transfer! Accommodation at Arenal Kioro hotel

There, we will visit the Santa Elena’s Biological Reserve, which is a private property with almost 12.150 hectares covered with humid cloud forest, located at the continental division between Caribbean and Pacific Sheds. This Reserve is protected by dense foliage, where we can find nearly 400 bird species (including the Quetzal), 50 mammal species and 300 orchid varieties.
