Rickshaw Tanzania received another award - this time from South African Airlines - for runner-up in the highest sales revenue generated by a travel agency in Tanzania for the year 2013-2014. The award came during South African Airlines' 80th birthday celebrations at The Hyatt Regency, Dar es Salaam on September 12, 2014. The event was graced by the High Commissioner of South Africa, Country Manager SAA, African Continent Head for SAA and sales head SAA. The TASOTA Chairperson Mr. Mustafa was also present. Once again, we would like to thank you, our customers, old and new, for your ongoing support and we look forward to our continuing relationship with SAA.

Cricket on Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Gorillas 82 for 5 - Rhinos 64 for 9 - Yes, last week a game of Twenty20 cricket was played in the crater of Mt. Kilimanjaro at a height of 5,730 metres, before the clouds stopped play, by a group of international cricketers setting a new record for the highest-ever match played.

Emirates boosts connections to Dar

Emirates boosts East Africa connections. Emirates has confirmed it will be able to connect even more people and cargo with Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, with the start of a second service to the east African coastal city from October 26th. The new five times weekly service will complement Emirates' existing daily operation, and further boost inbound and outbound passenger traffic and cargo flows between Tanzania and Dubai, and Emirates' worldwide network.

Qatar Airways to Phuket, Thailand

Qatar Airways will boost services to Thailand with the introduction of non-stop flights to Phuket, effective October 26th, 2014. The airline currently serves the Doha - Phuket route daily via a linked service through the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: "The start of non-stop services from Doha to Phuket offers travellers from around the world access to the popular tourist destination in a reduced time, from across our expanding global network."

Ethiopian Airlines moves into Terminal 2 at London Heathrow

Ethiopian Airlines, the first carrier to debut the advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner to London Heathrow, has moved to its new UK home at Terminal 2: The Queen's Terminal. It will join a host of Star Alliance members, including Singapore Airlines, at the brand new £2.5 billion state-of-the-art terminal formally opened by Her Majesty the Queen in June.

Fastjet Dar - Entebbe. Responding to requests from Ugandans and Tanzanians asking for a direct route between Entebbe and Dar es Salaam, Fastjet is now flying between these two cities four times a week. Previously, those wishing to travel between the two cities would have an approximate 23 hour journey by road to cover the 1,700km distance, with travellers having to journey around Lake Victoria, or they had to fly via Nairobi in Kenya, doubling the flight time and potentially involving lengthy layovers. read more

IHG has signed a management agreement with Tsemex Hotels and Business Plc to develop Crowne Plaza Addis Ababa, the 210-key hotel represents the entry of IHG into Ethiopia and adds to the company's growing presence in Africa. Crowne Plaza Addis Ababa is situated near significant landmarks including the African Union headquarters, African Union Convention Centre, the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Convention Centre. It is also located close to one of the largest international communities in the city. The new hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a speciality restaurant and a bar. "Naz - We just returned from our family Africa trip. It was wonderful.

Thank you for making our arrangements for the Safari with your Rickshaw counterparts in Tanzania (Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater) and Zanzibar portion. The trip was well organized and the staff were very knowledgeable and very helpful. Our transfers to and from the Airports were handled well and safely. Our trip also included a week in Dar es salaam, a city full of friendly and helpful residents.

Our Safari Guide and Driver, Joseph, always made sure that we were comfortable, well fed and were enjoying the trip. His knowledge of the game parks was superb and he made all efforts for us to see as many animals as possible. We were even able to see a leopard sitting on a tree. He also ensured that we had enough time to view the animals and take our pictures and only left once we gave him the go ahead.

A wonderful and memorable trip for our entire family.
