Etihad announces Codeshare with Lufthansa & Precision

LUFTHANSA

Etihad Airways has signed a ground-breaking agreement with German giant Lufthansa to codeshare on some flights, in a deal that is a prelude to a much closer relationship between the two national carriers.

Under this deal, which barring any regulatory requirements, takes effect February 2017. Lufthansa will place its LH code on Etihad’s flights between Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt and Munich.

James Hogan, president and chief executive of Etihad, said: "It is very clear to us at Etihad Airways that Lufthansa is a like-minded, forward thinking organization with which we can do strong, meaningful and mutually beneficial business."

The first stage of the deal allows passengers to share codes on some flights between the UAE, Germany and South America, but its significance is far greater than this initial co-operation.

Mr Hogan said: "We have long seen Germany as a key strategic market for Etihad and this new relationship with Lufthansa marks the next step in our commitment to the leading European aviation group. Lufthansa is highly respected globally and I’m very pleased that we will work together in the future for the benefit of our customers."

PRECISION AIR

Etihad also announced on December 21, 2016 that it had signed a Codeshare Agreement with Precision Air of Tanzania.

Under the agreement, Etihad Airways will place its EY code on Precision Air flights between Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Mtwara, Nairobi, Zanzibar, Pemba, and between Nairobi and Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.

Precision Air will place its PW code on Etihad’s daily services between Dar es Salaam and Abu Dhabi.

The deal is aimed at strengthening ties between East Africa and the UAE. Etihad currently operates services to 10 destinations in Africa, including Johannesburg, Nairobi, Entebbe, Dar es Salaam, Khartoum, Casablanca, Rabat, Lagos, Cairo and Mahé in the Seychelles.
