Holiday Planning
- Beat the Rush

The holidays are coming fast and it's time to think about your holiday travel plans. You may think it's still early, but those who've paid extra when they waited till the last minute know that to save money and avoid disappointment, the time to act is now.

There are many things to consider if you're going to take a holiday at Christmas time. With only two months to go, now is the time to book your flight, reserve your hotel and rent your car.

At this busy time of year, booking early is essential. So think fast about where you want to go, how you'll travel there, where you'll stay and what you'll do. And don't forget to think about on-the-ground transportation. Car rentals and train tickets go fast - book now!

Speak to any one of our travel consultants about your holiday and let us help make your plans go forward without a hitch.

Of course, Christmas isn't the only holiday being celebrated during this season. Happy Diwali to all our Hindu brothers and sisters! Diwali - the festival of Lights - is one of the most important festivals of the Hindu calendar and is also celebrated with excitement by Hindus around the world. Diwali marks the beginning of the Hindu and Gujurati New Year, and is celebrated with the lighting of lamps and candles, and lots of fireworks.

Additionally, our Muslim brothers and sisters will celebrate Eid-e-Ghadir by attending morning prayers followed by visits with family and friends and sharing a meal.

To all our friends and neighbours, we wish you the best of the holiday season, whatever your holiday may be.

Kenya -The Black Rhino Dilemma

Ol Pejeta is a non-profit wildlife conservancy in Kenya supporting endangered species, tourism and community outreach. It is also East Africa's largest black rhino sanctuary, the only place to see chimpanzees and also holds some of the highest predator densities in Kenya.

Likewise the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has also been instrumental in keeping safe the black rhinos on its lands and now has a surplus of black rhinos which it will relocate to other protected areas. Lewa has also had its share of rhinos killed by poachers. Other endangered mammals that call Lewa home are three important antelope species, and it houses 20% of the world's endangered Grevy's zebra population.

The news that a record number of African rhinos were illegally killed in South Africa this year is also very disheartening. The slaughter is driven by the use of their horns in Chinese medicine and a spreading belief in Southeast Asia, unfounded in science, that they may cure cancer.

Learn more about these conservancies and how you can help protect our endangered species by visiting their websites.

Christmas in East Africa

The warm and sunny weather is a big draw for travelers who want to escape the cold and snowy winters of the North. The eastern coast of Africa also has some of the most stunning beaches in the world. Although the local populations of Zanzibar, Dar es salaam, Mombasa, Lamu and Malindi, to name are few, are predominantly muslim, many hotels and resorts offer traditional Christmas celebrations.  It's not unusual to see a brightly lit Christmas tree amongst the swaying palm trees on the beach.

There is so much to explore in all of these places; things like the old forts, museums, their markets, the narrow streets in Zanzibar and the mangrove forests of Lamu.  Enjoy the warm waters of the Indian Ocean from a leisurely swim to deep-sea fishing and water sports like scuba diving, sailing and parasailing.  Take in the rich, historical local cultures and partake in local flavours like pilau, biryani, Kuku Na Nazi and Ugali.

Come and enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of the coast of East Africa during this upcoming holiday season.  Let us help you make this holiday season one to remember.

Until November 16th, Jet Airways, India's
pre-eminent private carrier, has slashed fares on the Mumbai-London sector to less than INR 10,000 (approx. GBP 116) per person, round trip (excluding taxes), reviving memories of a price war that made fares on the South-east Asian routes from India one of the cheapest in the world.

Mumbai-London fares are probably unlikely to remain that cheap but Virgin's imminent entry and the rush of flyers expected in the busy season which begins in October and runs up to January has prompted major international airlines to offer heavy discounts.

FASTJET expands fleet and strengthens management team - African low cost airline FastJet has expanded its aircraft fleet, signed a maintenance contract with a leading aircraft maintenance company and further strengthened its management team ahead of the airline's planned launch next month.

Commenting on the aircraft leases and recent management hires, FastJet chief executive Ed Winter said: “Signing two further aircraft to our fleet and securing delivery in November puts us firmly on track to launch FastJet next month at our first base in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

EGYPT projects a rise of about 20 percent in tourist numbers this year, the tourism minister said, despite outbreaks of violence after last year's Arab Spring.

But Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou cited strong recent occupancy rates at hotels. About 8.8 million tourists visited Egypt in the first nine months of this year, he said at an industry event.

"What I'm targeting is 11.5 million to 12 million tourists by the end of December. For sure over 11 million," Zaazou said. He said numbers should return to 2010 levels by the end of 2013 depending on the security situation.
