The Congo Nile Trail is an exciting 8-day road experience, which covers a wide range of fascinating attractions along the Lake Kivu shores.

Day 1: Kigali - Musanze - Gisenyi

Pick up from your hotel and start the Western route 8 days drive, with a visit to the community handcraft association in Kinigi, and before having lunch in Musanze on own account and then drive down to Gisenyi through the Pfunda community tea plantation and the Bralirwa bay. – Dinner on own account - Overnight at Paradis Malahide

Day 2: Gisenyi - Kinunu

After an early breakfast at Paradis Malahide Hotel and pre departure briefing by your guide then head to the Nkora Village through Nyamyumba and Cyimbiri for Coffee experience in Kinunu. From here you will ride enjoying the thousand hills of Rwanda with its amazing sun down lighting up the lake shores to Kinunu for your first coffee experience and the best campsite on the Congo Nile Trail.

Day 3: Kinunu to Bumba and Kibuye

This morning you will drive to the Congo Nile Watershed at 2630 m altitude, then down to Bumba base camp for lunch and community interaction. Drive on the main road to Kibuye for minimum 3 hours to get to the Rubengera junction, following the trail between community fields, crossing the river Coko before getting to Kibingo Health Centre to Mushubati and then to the main road junction of Rubengera and then down to Kibuye. The night will be spent in one of the relaxing hotel of the City (Morriah Hotel resort), just on the lake shores.

Day 4: Kibuye - Gisovu - Bisesero - Mugonero

From Kibuye our driving experience takes us to Gisovu for the tea experience and back down to the Bisesero genocide memorial and then down to Mugonero orphanage.

Day 5: Mugonero - Shangi - Kamembe

Departure from Mugonero after a discovering tour of the orphanage, drive all the way down to Nyamasheke and the Gashirabwoba genocide memorial before heading to Shangi, the first German military post of Rwanda. After an historical introduction of Shangi, drive through the Congo Nile Trail to Kamembe.

Day 6: Kamembe Island Tour

After 4 days drive, we take a relaxing morning by discovering the Kamembe surroundings and its amazing islander’s community in NKombo and Gihaya Island.

Day 7 - Kamembe - Nyungwe - Huye

After breakfast, you have an amazing drive through Nyungwe National Park, with an optional hike on the Canopy Walkway on the bottom of the Forest and a tour to th famous Murambi Genocide Memorial.  Then drive to Huye for the coffee testing experience.

Overnight Hotel Ibis

Day 8 - Huye - Nyanza - Kigali

After breakfast drive to the Ethnographi Museum for culture, dance and basket weaving experience followed by a city tour before driving to Nyanza for lunch and King's place tour.  After the tour, drive down to Kigali and be dropped off at your directly organized hotel/resident.
