NOVEMBER 2013 - SOLAR ECLIPSE IN KENYA

This is the most interesting eclipse of the year as it is one of the rare hybrid eclipse in which some sections of the path are annular while other parts are total. This hybrid eclipse of 2013 will be visible within a thin corridor, which traverses the North Atlantic and Equatorial Africa, including Kenya.

Take advantage of our safari/camp special which combines a safari with the anticipation of watching this rare event along the shores of Lake Turkana in a desert landscape in Northern Kenya.

The total phase of a solar eclipse is very brief. This will be only seen in Kenya for 15 seconds alongside Lake Turkana on the western side of the lake. Such a narrow and abrupt eclipse will come with a prominent presentation of the colorful innermost atmospheric layer of the Sun (the chromospheres) and a spectacular view along the axis of the Moon’s shadow.  Eclipses of this kind rarely last more than several minutes. Nevertheless, it is considered to be one of the most awe inspiring spectacles in all of nature which is worth traveling to go see.

A partial eclipse will be seen within the much broader path of the moon’s penumbral shadow, which includes eastern North America, northern South America, southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
