Dar - Bagamoyo speed ferry arrives

The long-awaited speed ferry with the capacity to carry 300 seated passengers has finally arrived in Dar es Salaam. This modern vessell, with all its high-tech safety equipment, is the first of its kind here and will ferry passengers between Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo minimizing the severe congestion in the city as well as cutting the travel time between the two cities.

Rotana to enter East Africa with hotel in Dar es Salaam

Rotana, the hotel management company in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia and Eastern Europe, stakes its claim on the African hospitality market, with the announcement of its debut project in the commercial capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam. The 254-key property will include 191 luxurious hotel rooms and suites and 63 serviced apartments spread across 24 floors.

Radisson Blu to open in Nairobi

Radisson Blu, an international hotel chain, is set to launch its first Kenyan hotel in Nairobi, the country's capital city. The hotel, set to open in 2015, is situated in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi. In 2012, the chain announced plans to enter into the East African hospitality market. It had initially set an August 2014 deadline to fully commence operations, but market challenges forced it to extend that deadline to next year.

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline in Africa, announced the commencement of direct flight to Doha, Qatar starting December 2, 2014 three times a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Air Mauritius is now operating from Terminal 1A at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.

FlightLink Air Charters, a Tanzania-based airline has announced plans to start flights between Dar es Salaam and Mombasa's Moi International Airport (MIA) early next year. In an interview with Weekend Business during the just concluded World Travel Market (WTM) in London, FlightLink CEO, Capt. Munawer Dhirani said they are keen to acquire the green light before starting the flights that will connect the two key Port cities. "We are already in touch with the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) for BASA rights before we roll out the Mombasa flights from our commercial operating hub of Dar Es Salaam," Capt Dhirani who was flanked by the Airline's Commercial Director, Mr Ibrahim Bukenya, said.

FastJet launches flights from Johannesburg to Zanzibar - Pan-African budget airline, FastJet, will now be flying between Johannesburg and Zanzibar, making a trip to the Tanzanian spice island even more accessible for South African travelers. Flights will take place three times a week, travelling via Dar es Salaam. FastJet flies from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, departing OR Tambo International Airport at 23:20.

Fastjet launches low cost flights from Zambia to East and Southern Africa. Fastjet Zambia made a major step towards launching its operations in the country last week when it was granted its Air Service Permit (ASP). CEO Ed Winter said: "We have been working tirelessly to roll out the fastjet model across the region and obtaining the ASP in Zambia is a really positive step forward." The carrier is now focused on continuing the submission of the necessary documents and manuals to complete the application process for an Air Operating Certificate (AOC), which will then allow the commencement of domestic and international operations. Fastjet plans to operate low cost flights from Zambia to a number of destinations in East and Southern Africa. Zambia will serve as the airline’s second base after Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, from where Fastjet commenced flights in September this year.
